DEFRA releases Forests For Sale map

DEFRA have released a map showing England’s forests that may be for sale.

Areas are categorised Large Commercial, Small Commercial, Multi-Purpose and Heritage.

Can you see your local forest? Download the PDF of the map from the DEFRA website.

Thanks for linking to this map – I spotted it via your twitter feed. I was surprised at how little of the country is public forest. It shows how urban we’ve become.

Poor English – where is the spirit of Kinderscout? If this happens think of children that cannot be driven in a car – how will they get to a forest to have a relationship with it? How will they value nature if the country is turned into a playground for the rich? And if they have to pay or travel for 3 hours there and 3 hours back – how many will actually go?
This plan fails to understand the values of the commons. Libraries work because we hold things in common – not pay for every book etc. That is how forests should work too. So a walk or bird spotting can be done easily, cheaply and for free.
